Grimbergen Double-Ambree is a Belgian ale abbey beer. The beer has a beautiful coppery golden color topped by a beautiful off-white head. The aroma is full-bodied with rich fruity notes of ripe pears, vanilla and anise, followed by hints of dark sugar and caramel.

The tradition of Grimbergen beer dates back to the 12th century, when the Norbertine Abbey of Grimbergen was built in a village just north of Brussels. Because the monastery has been destroyed and burned down several times throughout history, the monks were forced to abandon their brewing tradition. In 1958, however, they made a deal with the smaller Belgian brewery Alken-Maes, who then started brewing Grimbergen’s wonderful beer again – according to the monastery’s old recipes.

Grimbergen Double-Ambree has repeatedly won many international awards in the Ale category – including Gold in the World Beer Awards in 2018.

Grimbergen Double-Ambrée can be enjoyed with sweet pork dishes, such as honey-marinated ribs or glazed ham. Double-Ambrée is also suitable for red cheddar and firm sliced cheeses. Best enjoyed at 10-12 ºC.
