Monkey 47 is an unusual gin from the Black Forest in Germany, it contains a unique ingredient in that it contains cloudberries. The number 47 in the name comes from the number of plant extracts that this unique gin contains.

This abundance of ingredients has paid off for Monkey 47, winning gold in the Gin category of the World Spirits Award in 2011, as well as gold in the best in class category for gins in the world at the International Wine and Spirits Competition London.

Monkey 47 presents a lot of scents both woody scents, vegetal scents under grassy citon notes and botanical sweetness like a pine forest after rain. The scents are accompanied by a predictably complex flavor. It’s a robust and strong gin with lots of spice, fruit and herbal flavors. It’s very structured and it’s hard not to notice a fresh lemon at the start, which develops into a piney flavor and a woodsy and soothing aftertaste.

This is one of the most popular quality gins and should be enjoyed neat or in a Gin & Tonic. It can also be enjoyed in a Martini or with an equally robust vermouth.
