This rum is aged in the so-called Solera method, where younger rums are mixed with older rums, and the oldest rum in this blend is thus 19 years old.

The rum is named after the 19th century Cuban freedom fighter José Julián Martí Pérez, and was launched in 1995 to mark the 100th anniversary of his death.
