Ratzeputz is a German-made bitter that has been produced for more than 100 years. It contains extracts of ginger root and an ancient and well-known medicinal plant that is believed to benefit the stomach.
Ratzeputz was first produced back in 1877 by Peter Widmann’s distillery in Celle, a German town in the state of Lower Saxony. Originally this bitter was bottled in C.W. Baland and Langebartels in Celle, but today it is produced under license by Scwarze and Schlichte Oelde, a German town in the state of Nordrhein-Westfalen.
Ratzeputz has a distinctive and powerful taste, while leaving a long-lasting aftertaste. The alcohol content has decreased over time, despite today’s relatively high alcohol content of 58%.
