The story goes that one morning in 1899, the German brewmaster of an old brewery called ‘Salto del Agua’ (Water Spring) noticed a sunbeam falling over his brewing vessel. This caught his attention and he decided to call his beer ‘El Sol’ (‘the sun’ in Spanish). SOL® was launched in 1899 – so yes, it’s older than other famous Mexican beers (launched in 1922)!
