The launch of Carlsberg 1883 marks one of the major breakthroughs in beer history. It was in 1883 that Carlsberg invented the yeast purification method and shared both the invention and the pure yeast with other breweries, enabling them to brew beer of the same high quality as Carlsberg all over the world.

Carlsberg 1883 is brewed on the same yeast strain that Professor Emil Christian Hansen cultivated at the Carlsberg Laboratory on Gamle Carlsberg Vej in Valby in 1883.

Carlsberg has also brewed the new beer using the same recipe that Carlsberg used in 1883. Carlsberg 1883 is the result of a research project initiated by the Carlsberg Laboratory with the help of a donation from the Carlsberg Foundation on the occasion of the laboratory’s anniversary.
