The importance of iron:

Iron (Fe) is part of the family of trace elements or micronutrients, meaning it is required by plants in smaller amounts than primary (N, P, K) or secondary (Ca, Mg, S) nutrients. However, iron is very important for plant health and growth. Of all trace elements, iron is required in the highest quantity and its availability is highly dependent on the pH of the substrate.

Iron is part of the composition of several enzymes and certain pigments. It also helps reduce nitrate and sulphate levels in the plant, as well as energy production. Although iron is not used in the synthesis of chlorophyll (the green pigment in leaves), it remains essential for its formation; plants that need iron sometimes show symptoms of chlorosis in new leaves.
