RAFAEL GONZALEZ

Created in the 1930s, Rafael González cigars contain a light-tasting blend of filler and binder leaves from the Vuelta Abajo zone.

It was in this brand that the 6 1/2 inch by 42 gauge cigar, which has the factory name Cervantes, was the first to be called a Lonsdale after Lord Lonsdale, the famous English sporting magnate and cigar enthusiast of the period. Now many other brands also use the name.

On the lid, there is a curious inscription in English on each box that says the cigars should be smoked within a month of the date of shipment from Havana or that they should be carefully aged for about a year.

All sizes are made with ‘tripa larga, totalmente a mano’ – long filling, a completely handmade technique.

LONSDALES CORONER

Despite the name, the size of this lovely addition to the Rafael Gonzalez range is neither a Corona nor a Lonsdale. It’s a Hermoso No.4 measuring 5″ (127 mm) x 48 ring gauge and joins other classic Habanos in this size such as El Rey del Mundo Choix Supreme, Vegas Robaina Famosos and Romeo & Julieta Exhibition No.4.

Rafael Gonzalez Coronas de Lonsdale joins their Petit Corona and Perla counterparts in the UK. The heavier ring gauge of Coronas de Lonsdale compared to 42 and 40 respectively will no doubt attract the attention of cigar smokers looking to explore the nuanced flavors and aromas of this understated, light Habanos brand.

Presented in Semi Boîte Nature (SBN) boxes of ten cigars, Coronas de Lonsdale is made entirely by hand from long-fill tobacco from the legendary plantations of Vuelta Abajo in Pinar del Rio, Cuba.
