Rafael Gonzalez was created in the 1930s.

It was in this brand that the 6 1/2 inch by 42 gauge cigar, which has the factory name Cervantes, was first called a Lonsdale after Lord Lonsdale, the famous English sporting magnate and cigar aficionado of the period. Now many other brands also use the name.

On the lid label, each box bears a strange inscription written in English stating that the cigars must be smoked within a month of the date of shipment from Havana, otherwise they must be carefully aged for about a year.
