Chateau Galoupet Cru Classé Rosé 2021 is the flagship wine of producer Moët Hennessy. This is a rosé of a caliber that you rarely find. Despite its 14% alcohol (brought on by the high temperatures of the Provence region), the wine is fresh and supple, with bright acidity and a sleek minerality. There is plenty of peach in both aroma and taste, subtly complemented by spicy undertones and a gentle and successful touch of barrel from the fermentation and aging in quality barrels.
This is a rosé at the very top end of the price range, so obviously there needs to be more complexity and enjoyment than a normal supermarket rosé, and there certainly is.
It is also interesting to note two details about the bottle used. Firstly, it is not made of clear glass, as is common with rosé from Provence. This is because clear, transparent glass is made from new glass, while the dark bottles are more likely to be made from recycled glass – in this case 70 percent. Furthermore, at 499 grams, the bottle is in the lightweight range for wine bottles, which typically fluctuate between 600 and 900 grams. By using the lighter bottle, the manufacturer is helping to reduce the environmental impact associated with transportation.
