This Marsala Lombardo Ambra Dry is an Italian dessert wine produced from the Catarratto, Grillo and Inzolia grapes grown in Sicily. It is a typical Marsala wine due to the characteristic yellow color, which in Italian is called ‘ambra’. Ambra corresponds to the English ‘amber’, which means amber in Danish.
The characteristic Marsala color is therefore a deep, yellowish amber, which is obtained by adding ‘mosto cotto’. Mosto cotto is a sweet syrup made from the leftover grapes from the production. Marsala Lombardo Ambra is aged for one year in oak barrels and has an alcohol content of 17%. It can be drunk on its own, but is also often used as a flavor enhancer in cooking.
