Product description:

This exclusive Spanish red wine is made from 85% Tempranillo and 15% Mazuelo grapes. It is 9 years old at release and yet incredibly young to drink: the color is still dark with a clear violet edge. After some time in the glass, the nose opens up with a wealth of nuances of dark, juicy cherries, cloves, dill, vanilla, blackcurrant, leather and baked orange peel.
The taste has a balance like few wines – all the elements of the wine are exactly where they should be. Packed with dark and spicy sweet fruit, fine fresh acidity and very fine tannins on the finish. A wine in perfect harmony!
Ygay is an almost immortal wine. Anyone who has tasted old vintages knows that it can easily last 40-50 years, developing even more complexity and roundness as time goes on.
However, when enjoyed in its youth, it is recommended to decant it for 1-2 hours of oxygenation before serving at 15-16 degrees.
The basis is the La Plana vineyard at an altitude of almost 500 meters, where old Tempranillo and Mazuelo (Carignan) vines grow in porous soil consisting mainly of lime. In 2009, the blend consisted of wines harvested at different times and therefore also vinified separately. Tempranillo spent 26 months in American oak barrels, while Mazuelo spent 28 months in French oak barrels.
The wines are then blended and aged for 6 months in large cement vats, and after bottling, the wine spends a minimum of 3 years in the bottle before release.
