Before lighting up

The scent coming from the foot of Petit Royales is typical Romeo y Julieta: sugary and floral. Cold draws provide some pepper, with some notes of bitter chocolate and baked flour.

Burn/ Draw

Once lit, the draw is good and Petit Royal produces plenty of smoke throughout. The burn is also good, a little wavy at times but not a problem, while the dark ash builds beautifully and holds half of the cigar well.

Preliminary third:

Right from the start, Petit Royales features lots of wood (mostly cedar) mixed with some typical Romeo flowers. It’s generally salty, but soon the flavor profile gets richer, with some strong notes of nuts and creaminess joining this rather powerful first third.

Middle third:

In the middle third, the cedar flavors intensify while the body is now a solid medium, stronger than most other medium Romeo y Julieta smokes. The nuttiness also increases, while some notes of bitter chocolate emerge. Some fruit acidity is a good addition to a complex second third.

Final third:

The fruit notes become more bitter in the last part, but the dominant cedar and cream are still very enjoyable. The ever-changing flavors in the background keep the cigar interesting until the end. The overall strength is just shy of a medium-strong when you reach the peak.

Overall, a short Romeo y Julieta that has plenty of character. Not to be missed!
