Segura Viudas, Cava Semi Seco Reserva is one of Spain’s premier sparkling wines. Made from 60% Macabeo, 25% Parellada and 15% Xarel-lo, Cava Semi Seco is aged between two and three years before release. The aroma offers delightful notes of citrus, pear and a hint of candied fruit. The taste is generous and creamy, leading to a fruity finish. A lovely sparkling all-round wine that is suitable for both sipping and serving with (preferably spicy) seafood dishes.

The term CAVA was introduced in 1970 and refers to the fine sparkling wines produced using the Champagne method in Spain. Originally, these wines were sold under the name Champaña, which was in conflict with the French Champagne. The vast majority of CAVA wines are produced in Catalonia, with Penedès being the main region. To use the CAVA designation, the wines must be aged for a minimum of 9 months on the lees and the pressure before disgorgement must be at least 4 atmospheres.

One of the best Segura Viudas is located in Spain’s Penedès region, housed in a magnificent 11th century building. The original buildings served as vantage points to keep a watchful eye on enemy troops. Over the years, the buildings were modified and expanded and eventually transformed into a stately country house in the Roman/Gothic style. In 1954, the property was purchased by the Segura Viudas family.
